Pre-purchase Homework - Centrifugal Fan

Centrifugal fans are widely used in various industries and play a crucial role in ventilation, air supply, dust removal, cooling, and other applications. Therefore, selecting the correct and reasonable centrifugal fan is not only a crucial guarantee for the normal and economical operation of ventilation and pneumatic conveying systems but also directly affects our daily lives and work.

Hence, the centrifugal fan we choose should not only meet the necessary airflow and pressure requirements for the duct system during operation but also ensure that the ventilation fan operates efficiently at this airflow and pressure, making it an economically sound choice.

Currently, some commonly used centrifugal fans for ventilation and pneumatic conveying are domestically manufactured and readily available in product samples. For the convenience of users in selecting these fans, the product samples contain performance curves and selection charts for various fan types. Moreover, symbols and parameters are used for different types and model numbers of fans. Therefore, before selecting a fan, it is essential to familiarize oneself with the product samples.

Listed below are some relevant points that I'd like to share:

Firstly, the method of formulating the model numbers of centrifugal ventilation fans. The complete identification of a centrifugal ventilation fan includes: name, model number, serial number, transmission method, rotation direction, and outlet position. The model number is relatively more complex because it comprises four components: total pressure coefficient, specific speed, inlet form, and design sequence number.

Next is the selection process and considerations for centrifugal ventilation fans.

Here, the primary consideration is the fan's operating environment, namely its main purpose. Depending on the nature of the air being conveyed-whether it's clean air, flammable and explosive gases, corrosive gases, or dusty air-the selected fan will undoubtedly vary.

Furthermore, based on the required air volume, pressure, and the identified type of fan, choose the required fan from the performance table or curves in the ventilation fan product samples. Simultaneously, consideration should be given to the possibility of air leakage due to inadequate sealing of the duct system. Therefore, a margin of 10% to 20% should be added to the calculated airflow and pressure of the system during selection.
